Sometimes our creativity needs a little nudge

That’s what Unboxing Chronic Creativity is all about, re-finding creativity while facing big, very real monsters in our head and bodies such as chronic illness, anxiety, and unhealed past wounds (not necessarily trauma).

Because all creators, from writers to painters to videographers, have a small artist child inside of them. And some have been locked away for much too long. They need to learn how to live again.

This newsletter is loosely inspired by The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron.

I want to encourage other artists like me to step aside from the rules for a moment and have fun. Hopefully, to learn from my journey of healing my own inner artists so you can as well.

What to expect

  • Weekly newsletters reflecting on something I’ve learned or am in the process of learning that affects my art in some way

  • Monthly round-ups with a short, fun story and art inspiration

  • Thoughts on multiple topics, all stemming from re-learning habits, recovering from past experiences, & moving forward

  • The knowledge you aren’t alone in this struggle

Subjects generally covered

  • Rest

  • Writing

  • Drawing

  • Trying new things

  • Anxiety

  • Chronic illness (mostly Crohn’s)

  • Habits (but more on how they pertain to creation, not on creating them)

Okay, but who are you?

Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. Hi, I’m Ada!

As a creator, I weave fiction, write poetry, wrangle together websites, and experiment with various mediums and programs. Not all pertain directly to art, but do have to do with creating something.

I became (severely) lactose intolerant around the age of 16 and was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at 19. Right after my finals for my freshman year of college. Along with that, I’ve began to unravel my own past wound and attempted to heal them. This is to help me with my fear of anger and my worrying.

But I’m not here for pity. We all have our own battles. No one’s is invalid.

I’m here to learn new ways of doing things to bring back my creativity and enjoy life once more. You know, without that perpetual cloud of self-doubt and anxiety. And hopefully you can learn alongside me.
